A World of Cookies
DEAR SOS: World’s Best Cookies sounds like the recipe Hazel is looking for.
--MARY ANNE
DEAR MARY ANNE: I believe you and dozens of other readers who wrote in with cornflakes, oats and pecan cookie recipes replacing the one we provided to Hazel may be correct. However, names of recipes ranged from Sierra Nuggets (from a package of Guittard chocolate chips), pecan drops (from a cookbook), yummy crunchy cookies (from someone’s dog-eared recipe), World’s Best Cookies and Buffalo chips (from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyo.), among others.
All are pretty much the same as yet another famous cookie--ranger cookies--with minor variations. But we chose World’s Best Cookies.
WORLD’S BEST COOKIES
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 cup oil
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup crushed cornflakes
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add egg and mix well. Add oil and mix well. Add oats, cornflakes, coconut, pecans and vanilla. Stir well. Add flour, baking soda and salt.
Form into 1-inch balls. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Flatten with fork dipped in water. Bake at 350 degrees 10 minutes. Cool on baking sheet 10 minutes before removing. Makes about 9 1/2 dozen.
