Long Beach : $40,000 Grant Received for Gallery of Cambodian Art
The United Cambodian Community Inc., a social service agency serving Long Beach’s Cambodian community, has received a $40,000 grant from the Knight Foundation to open what organizers believe will be the area’s first art gallery devoted exclusively to Southeast Asian art.
“We are elated,” said Than Pok, the UCC’s executive director. “(This) promotes the cultural and educational components of our service.”
In addition to presenting regular exhibitions of works by Southeast Asian artists, the gallery--expected to open this fall at UCC headquarters on Anaheim Street--will include a gift shop and permanent work space for the Khmer Women Weavers, a group of Cambodian weavers.
