OXNARD : Graduation Rules Become Stricter
Oxnard Union High School District trustees gave final approval Wednesday to a policy increasing high school graduation requirements for students entering ninth grade this fall.
The policy, which raises the total number of credits needed to graduate from 220 to 230, also requires students to take an additional year of both English and math. Trustees approved the stricter requirements on a 4-0 vote. Board President Steve Stocks was absent.
Students will also be required to take a computer literacy course, or be exempted from that requirement by passing a district test or having a teacher certify computer proficiency. Also, students entering ninth grade in the fall of 1992 must take a semester of geography or pass a geography test.
The board approved the policy for students at the district’s five regular high schools and at Frontier Continuation High School.
The board also toughened graduation standards for adult school students, beefing up English, math and computer literacy requirements and increasing the total number of credits required for graduation from 160 to 210, beginning with the class of 1995.
