Nov. 5 Election to Fill Council Seat
The El Segundo City Council on Monday called for a special election to fill a council vacancy after failing to appoint a successor to former Councilman Jim Clutter, who resigned in June because he has cancer.
The council vote--estimated to cost $20,000--will be consolidated with the Nov. 5 general election.
Councilman Scot D. Dannen said the council whittled the list of 11 contenders down to three names but was unable to make a choice. “We deadlocked and decided to go to a vote,” he said.
The council has been functioning with four members since Clutter resigned with 10 months remaining in his first term. The candidate elected in November will serve until April.
