West Hollywood : Sheriff’s Department Shifts
Despite a rush of last-minute overtime, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department came up 350 shifts short of fulfilling its $9.2-million contractual obligation to the city of West Hollywood before the close of the fiscal year on June 30, said Capt. Clarence Chapman.
The Sheriff’s Department, which provides service in West Hollywood, discovered the shortfall in April, after it was disclosed that a deployment error had left the department about 800 shifts short. To make up the difference, the station set up a “hustler abatement” program, paid for with overtime, to operate on the city’s east end. Officers on the special detail made more than 150 arrests before the fiscal year’s end.
