WORLD IN BRIEF : CHINA : Foreign Aid for Flood Relief Asked

China appealed for foreign aid to help cope with Yangtze River floods that have killed more than 1,200 people since January and left millions homeless. Officials said $200 million is needed for reconstruction and emergency supplies to help limit widespread outbreaks of disease. Foreign governments and U.N. agencies so far have pledged about $770,000.
