As Steve Beuerlein’s right arm works overtime, the Raiders await a new shipment of quarterbacks. But when?

First-round draft choice Todd Marinovich remained unsigned through Thursday’s practice while the Raiders continued contract work with veterans Jay Schroeder and Vince Evans.

Veterans are due in camp tonight. Steve Ortmayer, the Raiders’ director of football operations, said about a dozen players have yet to sign contracts but added: “Many have agreed to terms.”

The Raiders have practiced this week with one quarterback, Beuerlein, who is making up for lost time--the 1990 season, for openers. Coach Art Shell said he had to pare Beuerlein’s workload to keep the quarterback out of the trainer’s room.

Defensive tackle Tim Rother strained his groin and missed Thursday’s afternoon practice. Running back Napoleon McCallum sat out the afternoon session because of a stomach ailment. . . . One Raider who won’t be a holdout is tailback Greg Bell, who recently agreed to a two-year contract worth about $800,000 a season. . . . Although Marinovich has missed an important first week of practice, he learned most of the playbook during three weeks of workouts at the team’s El Segundo complex in June. “He learned a whole lot in a short period of time,” Shell said.
