Mayor to Head Drug Panel Again
San Diego Mayor Maureen O’Connor has been named to her third term as co-chair of the U.S. Mayors Task Force on Drug Control, the mayor’s office announced Thursday.
O’Connor was appointed by Boston Mayor Ray Flynn, who is president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. She will share the post with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.
The task force’s top priority for 1991-92 will be to lobby Congress for more direct financial aid for drug education and law enforcement activities, such as the drug-free school program and the juvenile gang program, said O’Connor spokesman Paul Downey.
