Four gunmen raiding a busy outlet in Los Angeles’ downtown jewelry district stole an estimated $400,000 in diamonds, gold chains, watches and other jewelry on Friday, police reported.

The bandits, armed with handguns, entered the Capri jewelry emporium at 410 W. 6th Street about 11 a.m. Three of the seven businesses inside the establishment were robbed of goods. The value of the stolen goods was later estimated at more than $400,000, Lt. Lou Trovato said.

Clerks and customers were ordered to lie on the floor as the gunmen emptied cases. No shots were fired, and no one was injured. Witnesses reported seeing the four near 7th Street and Grand Avenue, fleeing with the loot.
