NATION IN BRIEF : CONNECTICUT : Man Held in Plot to Kill Daughter
A man was charged with trying to hire a hit man to kill his teen-age daughter in an attempt to stop her from testifying against him in a sexual-abuse case, Hartford, Conn., authorities said. William S. Rogers, 37, of Bristol, Conn., was arrested after he gave $900 to an undercover agent posing as a hit man, said a spokesman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The spokesman said Rogers indicated he wanted a bomb placed in a car carrying his daughter and her legal guardian. He said the money was supposed to be a down payment on the killing. Bristol police said the girl was going to testify against her father in a sexual assault case. Rogers was arrested on that charge in February. Rogers was charged with counts including attempted interstate transportation of explosives.
