Collins Wins Speedway Scratch Main Event

Phil Collins of Costa Mesa won the four-lap scratch main event Friday in front of a crowd of 3,471 at the weekly speedway program at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa was second, Mike Faria of Colton third and Shawn McConnell of Brea fourth.

Alan Christian of Murrieta won the eight-lap handicap main event. Faria was second, Charlie Venegas of Costa Mesa was third, Collins was fourth, Archie Perez of Costa Mesa was fifth, Ed Castro of Ojai sixth, Louis Kossuth of Diamond Bar seventh and Tony Bienert of Hesperia eighth.
