Bigger Than Life (AMC Tuesday at 6 and 11:30 p.m.). A great 1956 family drama from director Nick Ray and star-producer James Mason, it’s about an ordinary suburban teacher who develops murderous delusions of grandeur under cortisone.

Forty Guns (Family Channel Tuesday at 8 p.m.). Sergio Leone claims this baroque 1957 Sam Fuller Western, with Barbara Stanwyck as a ruthless Tombstone land baroness, was one of the two main influences on his style. It’s unique, wild, riveting.

The Boy With Green Hair (AMC Saturday at 8 a.m.). A fascinating 1948 leftist fable, director Joseph Losey’s first film uses the dilemma of a war orphan with mysteriously green hair (young Dean Stockwell) to promote both pacifism and racial tolerance.
