PAL Team Wins

The San Diego Police Athletic League Girls’ 12-and-under team moved to 1-1 with a come-from-behind 38-32 victory over Vermont at the AAU/USA National Junior Olympic championships in Cincinnati. Jamie Brossard scored 15 points, eight in the second half, and Richelle Perkins added 13 to help San Diego wipe out a 14-13 halftime deficit.

SURFING

Encinitas’ Brad Gerlach won his second title on the 1991 Assn. of Surfing Professionals Tour when he defeated Australia’s Rod Kerr, 85-75.8, in the Gunston 500 in Durban, South Africa. Gerlach became the overall points leader with 4920 and will return to his home coast for the OP Pro event, July 22-28 in Huntington Beach, the top ranked surfer on the tour.
