Drug Companies: Eli Lilly & Co.’s second-quarter earnings jumped 16% to a record $317.5 million as sales climbed 12% to $1.376 billion, also a record. The Indianapolis-based company’s pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostics and animal-health areas contributed. Citing growth in all product areas, Upjohn Co. of Kalamazoo, Mich., said second-quarter net income rose 12% from a year ago to $127.5 million as sales rose 14% to $859 million.
