Carson’s Comments: Fighting back tears, Johnny Carson eulogized his son, Rick, Wednesday on the “Tonight Show” and thanked viewers for their outpouring of sympathy. It was Carson’s first appearance on the show since his 39-year-old son died June 21 in an automobile accident. He also showed a photograph of Rick, noting that “the picture in papers after the accident was the one on his driver’s license. I don’t think any of you would want to be remembered by the photo on your driver’s license.”
