Anaheim Youth Dies After Fall From Gate
ANAHEIM — A 17-year-old youth was fatally injured when he fell from a gate on a fire access road Wednesday night, police said.
Chad Mitchell of Anaheim and four other youths apparently were swinging on an unlocked metal gate above an embankment at 5900 E. Queens Road when the accident occurred, Anaheim Police Officer Jeff Berns said.
“They apparently decided to get on the gate, give it a push and swing themselves onto the embankment,” Berns said.
The gate broke, and Mitchell and a friend fell about 20 feet to the ground, Berns said. The friend ran to a fire station and reported the accident at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Berns said.
Mitchell died at a nearby hospital.
