Yellow Flags Aid Brader in Ventura Win
The yellow flag signals caution and a deliberate pace to drivers. It also signaled the path to victory for Lynn Brader on Friday night at Ventura Raceway.
The Somis driver used a combination of three yellow flags and a cautious, yet aggressive approach, as he moved up from the ninth starting position to win the 20-lap Street Stock main event for the second consecutive week.
Season points leader Paul Moore of Oak View jumped into the lead on the first lap and looked well on his way to victory. However, the yellow flags began to appear by Lap 7 to slow the field and by Lap 9, Ventura’s Mark Heurung had bumped Moore to fourth.
Another yellow helped Brader pressure Heurung into a critical error as he went too high in Turn 3 on Lap 14 and Brader went on to finish the final six laps with ease.
Heurung was second, Scott Olsen of Ventura finished third and Jerry Jones of Paramount was fourth.
Marty Desbrow of Ventura went wire to wire to win the Mini Stock 20-lap main event. Gary Hubert of Somis was second and Steve Rowe of Fillmore took third.
It was the sixth main event victory of the season for Desbrow and he is beginning to outdistance the field in the season points race.
In eight-lap Mini Stock heat race action, Robert McMahon of Port Hueneme and Santa Paula’s Jeff Drake each drove to easy victories.
Billy Ziemann of Wilmington made his first appearance at Ventura and he won the eight-lap Street Stock C heat race. Olsen and Moore each went wire to wire to gain the other heat victories.
