Riley Falls in Junior Amateur
Chris Riley of Madison High lost in the third round of the Junior Amateur Championships on Friday in Orlando, Fla.
Riley, the San Diego Section individual champion in 1990, advanced to the third round, played in the morning, with a victory over Joe Acosta of Visalia in match play, 3 and 1. But he was defeated by Ryan Mainey of Cameron Park, 1 up, in the afternoon match.
Individual medalist Tiger Woods of Cypress reached the quarterfinals with a pair of match-play victories.
Woods defeated Pat Fry of Fort Collins, Colo., 5 and 3 in the morning match, and then beat Don Padget, of Fairlawn, Ohio, 2-up.
SHOOTING
Rudolph Hernandez of Camp Pendleton won the Any Sight event at the National Smallbore Rifle Prone Championship in Camp Perry, Ohio. Hernandez also finished in third in the Prone Metallic Sight event.
