Plane Damaged in Landing at Burbank
A twin-engine plane was damaged when it landed at Burbank Airport on Saturday with broken landing gear. The pilot and passenger were not injured in the incident, authorities said.
The plane, a Beechcraft BE18, skidded to halt at 4 p.m. about 200 yards west of the intersection of the airport’s two runways, airport spokesman Victor Gill said.
The underside of the plane was damaged in the belly-flop landing, which did not interrupt the airport traffic, Gill said. The grounded aircraft was cleared away by 5:30 p.m.
Both the pilot and passenger, whose names were not released, walked away from the scene without assistance, Gill said.
The pilot had radioed the airport in advance about the plane’s landing gear troubles, and airport firefighters prepared for a possible crash, Gill said.
