Claremont : Damaged Trees Removed
City maintenance crews have begun removing 840 city trees that were so badly damaged by last fall’s frost that they cannot survive. An additional 345 trees that suffered significant frost damage will be trimmed.
Officials said they waited through the spring growing season to give trees along streets and in parks a chance to recover. Trees that pose a safety hazard are being removed or trimmed first, followed by trees in parks and on major streets.
The project, which will cost $111,000, is expected to be completed by October. The city will then undertake a planting program to replace the trees.
Residents may report trees they suspect are hazardous to the Community Services Department.
