Inmate Accused of Offering a Bribe for Help in Escape
A 19-year-old inmate at a county jail in Saugus was arrested after offering $50,000 to a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy to help him escape, the Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.
Michael Carter, an inmate at the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho awaiting sentencing on a robbery conviction, was arrested on suspicion of felony bribery, escape and narcotics charges after offering to bribe Deputy Michael Caprioli, authorities said.
Caprioli told his supervisors about Carter’s offer and then taped a series of conversations with him between June 15 and July 15, Deputy Mary Landreth said.
Carter has been transferred to the Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles, Landreth said.
