THOUSAND OAKS : Panel Takes Steps to Preserve Ridgelines
In an effort to preserve the city’s ridgelines, the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission approved a recommendation to the City Council to consider acquiring about 18 acres of hilltop land near Olsen Road and Mountclef Boulevard.
Development of seven existing lots on the steeply graded land would jut above the city’s ridgelines, officials said.
If Monday’s recommendation is approved, four landowners would have to sell their property to the city.
The Planning Commission also agreed to change the zoning ordinance in the area to increase restrictions on future development. Under the new ordinance, Thousand Oaks landowner Pearl Wong is able to build up to seven houses on her property. However, Wong, the only landowner not affected by the possible acquisition, would have to donate a portion of her 4.5 acres to preserve the ridgeline, Wong said.
