To augment the bullpen while Bryan Harvey attends his grandmother’s funeral, the Angels optioned Bobby Rose to Edmonton instead of reliever Chris Beasley when they recalled Joe Grahe to start Monday’s game.

Rose, who hit .288 in 18 games as an infielder and outfielder, said he was promised he would be recalled after 10 days, the minimum stay after an option.

The Angels haven’t determined Fernando Valenzuela’s future. He must be recalled by Aug. 19 or he will become a free agent. “There’s no immediate decision to be made,” senior vice president Dan O’Brien said. . . . Center fielder Junior Felix was sent to Class-A Palm Springs on a 20-day rehabilitation assignment. Felix has been sidelined since June 19 because of a strained right calf muscle. . . . Rod Carew, who was inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame on July 21, will be inducted into the Angels’ Hall of Fame before tonight’s game.
