SIMI VALLEY : Driver’s Training Classes to Continue
The Simi Valley school board decided Tuesday to retain a driver’s training class and to offer a rebate to students who attended school diligently.
Of the 595 Simi Valley Unified School District students who took the driver’s training class this spring, 90 were eligible to receive a partial rebate of the $130 class fee. A $39 refund was offered to students who were absent no more than five days from any class during the semester.
A student survey at the end of the school year showed that 68% of respondents felt that the rebate helped boost school attendance.
Last spring, the school district began offering driver’s training classes through its Simi Valley Adult and Career Institute after the state eliminated funding for the program.
Driver’s education, which teaches the rules of the road in the classroom, will continue to be offered without charge.
