Calming the Stern: The National Stuttering Project has pulled an about-face and named New York-based shock jock deejay Howard Stern an honorary member. The group has previously criticized Stern for his mocking remarks about John Melendez (known as Stuttering John), one of the regular characters on Stern’s show. Ira Zimmerman, the group’s media relations coordinator, said Stern--whose show debuted in Los Angeles on July 25 on “classics station” KLSX--baits and mocks everyone. The organization also has called off a boycott of KLSX advertisers.
