Ex-Councilman Is Arrested on Road
Former San Diego City Councilman Uvaldo Martinez Jr., who resigned in 1986 after pleading guilty to misusing his city credit card, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of drunk driving.
Officer Bob Melton of the California Highway Patrol said Martinez was pulled over about 1:40 a.m. by an officer who saw his car weaving on Interstate 8.
Martinez, 48, of San Diego was taken to County Jail downtown, Melton said, and released a few hours later.
“He blew a 0.14 on the Breathalyzer,” Melton said.
A driver is considered legally drunk if he registers an alcohol reading of 0.08% or above. Martinez, who served on the City Council from 1982 until his resignation in 1986, could not be reached for comment.
He resigned after pleading guilty in October, 1982, to two felony charges of abuse of a city-issued credit card. Prosecutors said he used the card to entertain friends and associates at posh restaurants.
