Explosions Rock North Sea Oil Rig
Times Wire Services
LONDON — Three explosions rocked a Shell oil rig in the North Sea on Wednesday, injuring three workers, the company said. Scottish police said all 121 people aboard the platform were accounted for.
Oil production on the 11-year-old Fulmar Alpha platform was shut down at the time, said a spokeswoman for Shell U.K. Exploration & Production Co.
Eight helicopters from Britain and Norway raced to the platform, about 200 miles off the east coast of Scotland, to evacuate workers.
