Fullerton Golfer Has Two-Shot Lead at Junior Event
Richard Son of Fullerton shot a four-under-par 67 Wednesday to take a two-shot lead after two rounds of the Ben Hogan Boys’ Junior Championship at Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Tex.
Son, who graduated from Sunny Hills High School in June and will attend North Carolina on a golf scholarship, birdied six holes on the Cottonwood Valley Course at Las Colinas. He has a two-round total of 137 and leads Jason Buha of Farmington Hills, Mich., with two rounds remaining in the American Junior Golf Assn. tournament.
Son barely made it into the field. He was the fourth alternate after shooting 74 in the qualifying round Monday, but joined the draw when several players withdrew.
Dan Dalton of Huntington Beach, Scott Richardson of Laguna Niguel and Paul Hinkle of Costa Mesa failed to make the cut in the 15-18 division.
In the 13-14 division, Robert Son of Fullerton is in sixth place, six shots behind the leader, Jeffrey Lawrence of Henryetta, Okla. Ben Garner of El Toro is tied for seventh, one shot behind Son.
