Action Postponed on Shop Center
ANAHEIM — The City Council has postponed action on a proposed Anaheim Hills commercial center that would include a 24-hour fast-food restaurant opposed by residents.
The center is planned for 12 acres on the northeast corner of Weir Canyon Road and La Palma Avenue, a quiet part of the hills that residents are worried could be disturbed by an all-night eatery.
Resident Bill Taraschi said another 24-hour fast-food restaurant about 2 miles from the planned center site draws late-night traffic from around the hills area.
“Our area has nothing like that out there,” he said. “We don’t want to see a duplicate of that where we are.”
The City Council earlier this week decided to postpone approval of the project until the developer and area homeowners worked out an agreement concerning the business hours of the restaurant.
Residents said they would be satisfied if the developer would change the hours of the fast-food restaurant so that it closed about 11 p.m. on weeknights and a little later on weekends.
Additionally, residents wanted assurances that a service station in the commercial center would not sell beer and wine, a stipulation the developer and the residents plan to discuss.
