SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : Dodgers, Angels in Spotlight

With the Rams and Raiders not scheduled to play until Monday, baseball regains the weekend sports television spotlight, along with the final major men’s golf tournament of 1991.

Baseball: Both the Dodgers and Angels will have north-south matchups. The Dodgers, the leaders in the NL West, will face the San Francisco Giants today and Sunday at 1 p.m. on KTTV Channel 11. The Angels, last in the AL West, will take on the powerful Oakland Athletics at 7 tonight on KTLA Channel 5. ESPN’s 5 p.m. Sunday’s game will match the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs.

Golf: TBS will open coverage of the third round of the PGA Championship at 8 a.m. today, with CBS (Channels 2, 8) picking up the tournament at 10:30 a.m. Final-round coverage will begin Sunday at the same times on both networks.

Pro Football: The Super Bowl champion New York Giants make their second prime-time appearance in six days when they play at the Cleveland Browns in an exhibition game tonight at 6 on Channels 2, 8. The Chicago Bears will play host to the Phoenix Cardinals at 5 p.m. Sunday on TNT.

Pan American Games: The second of three weekends of the Pan American Games coverage will include basketball, swimming and track and field. The Games can be seen today at 1 p.m. on Channel 10, and at 2 p.m. on Channels 7, 3, 42. Coverage will continue as part of “Wide World of Sports,” at 3:30 p.m. on Channel 10 and 4:30 p.m. on Channels 7, 3 and 42, and Sunday at 1 p.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42 and 3 p.m. on cable’s TNT.
