YORBA LINDA : Recycling Reduces City’s Waste Volume
Homeowners recycled more than a quarter of their trash during the first month of the city’s recycling program, city officials said this week.
According to city estimates, the city’s waste volume was reduced 26.6% through recycling efforts that were launched in June, said Glenn Yasui, a senior administrative assistant for Yorba Linda.
Yorba Linda Disposal, which is running the recycling program, collected about 410 tons of recyclables worth $15,600 in the first month, Yasui said. Half of the revenue from recycling will go toward offsetting residential trash collection rates, he said. About 85% of the recyclables are newspapers or mixed paper, he said.
