* Born May 3, 1931, in Glasgow, Scotland, and an American citizen. He was on leave from Colorado State University. On June 9, 1985, he was seized by the Islamic Jihad while riding in a car from Beirut airport to the university.

* Acting comptroller of American

University in Beirut

* Born Sept. 13, 1930, in Valley Forge, Pa. He was seized Sept. 12, 1986, at the doorway of his faculty apartment by the Revolutionary Justice Organization. He had converted to Islam and married a Lebanese woman in 1985.

Jesse Turner

* Mathematics-computer science professor at Beirut University College

* Born July 30, 1947, in Boise, Ida. He was kidnaped from the campus on Jan. 24, 1987, by the Islamic Jihad for the Liberation of Palestine, posing as policemen. Taken with him were Robert Polhill, Alann Steen and Mithileshwar Singh.

* Born April 22, 1939, in Boston. He had taught at Humboldt State University in Arcata and at Chico State University, both in California. He was kidnaped Jan. 24, 1987, by the Islamic Jihad for the Liberation of Palestine.

Terry Waite

* Envoy for the Anglican church

of Britain

* Born May 31, 1939. He made five trips to Lebanon and also helped to gain the release of captives held by Iran and Libya. He was kidnaped in West Beirut on Jan. 20, 1987, when he went to meet representatives of Islamic Jihad.

* Alberto Molinari, 71, Italian businessman who had lived in Beirut more than 30 years, kidnaped Sept. 11, 1985.

* Jack Mann, 77, retired British airline pilot and nightclub manager who lived in Lebanon for more than 40 years, missing since May 12, 1989.

* Thomas Kemptner, 30, German employee of Asme Humanitas Relief Agency, kidnaped May 16, 1989.
