The San Francisco Giants had a 13-game winning streak at Candlestick Park, the last three over the Dodgers, but the Atlanta Braves weren’t impressed.

Charlie Leibrandt outpitched Bud Black and Brian Hunter’s two-run single in the fourth inning gave the Braves a 2-1 victory over the Giants Monday night.

Leibrandt (10-11) gave up five hits, walked two and struck out five in seven innings, reversing a 1-0 setback to Black last Wednesday in Atlanta.

Leibrandt, who ended his four-game losing streak, is 2-2 with a 1.65 earned-run average in four starts against the Giants this season.

Mike Stanton pitched the eighth and Juan Berenguer worked the ninth for his 17th save as the Braves won their fourth in a row and remained 1 1/2 games behind the Dodgers. It ended the Giants’ winning streak at five and was their first loss at home since July 5.

San Francisco took a 1-0 lead on Kirt Manwaring’s run-scoring double in the second inning, but the ball bounced over the fence and Robby Thompson, who would have scored easily, had to stop a third--where he was stranded.

Pittsburgh 4, St. Louis 3--Barry Bonds’ second two-run homer of the game, a one-out shot in the 11th against bullpen ace Lee Smith, rallied the Pirates past the Cardinals at Pittsburgh.

The Pirates, who had lost 11 of 13 games and saw their East lead over St. Louis shrink to four games after a defeat to the Cardinals on Friday night, won the final three games of the series to stretch their lead to seven games.

Geronimo Pena’s homer in the top of the 11th against Bob Patterson (2-1) gave St. Louis a 3-2 lead, but Smith (6-3) couldn’t hold it while trying for his league-leading 29th save. Bobby Bonilla singled before Bonds’ 20th homer.

Jose DeLeon was working on a one-hit shutout until the seventh, when Bonilla singled and Bonds followed with his 19th homer to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.

San Diego 6, Houston 5--Fred McGriff led off the seventh with his second homer of the game, breaking a 5-5 tie at San Diego, and the Padres sent the Astros to their sixth consecutive defeat.

The Astros scored three runs in the top of the seventh to make the score 5-5, denying Bruce Hurst his 15th victory.

Jose Melendez (6-3) balked home a run and yielded a sacrifice fly to pinch-hitter Luis Gonzalez for the tying run but picked up the victory when Craig Lefferts got the last out for his 18th save.

Chicago 3, New York 2--Pinch-hitter Jerome Walton hit a run-scoring single in the 10th inning and the Cubs completed a four-game sweep of the Mets at Chicago.

The Cubs, who swept a four-game series in New York last weekend for the first time since 1965, trail the third-place Mets by one game in the East. New York lost for the 16th time in 20 games.

Doug Dascenzo got his first hit in 33 at-bats, a leadoff single in the 10th against Tim Burke (4-7). Chico Walker sacrificed Dascenzo to second before Walton singled up the middle against Jeff Innis.

Philadelphia 2, Montreal 1--Len Dykstra’s run-scoring single in the seventh inning lifted the Phillies past the Expos at Philadelphia for their franchise record-tying 13th consecutive victory.

The Phillies swept the four-game series with the Expos and have defeated Montreal 10 consecutive times, 21 times in 25 games.

Philadelphia has won 12 in a row at home, four short of the team record, also set in 1977.
