Off-Duty Shooting Is Investigated
Inglewood police continued their investigation Wednesday into the fatal shooting by an off-duty Culver City police officer of a man who allegedly tried to steal the officer’s car at gunpoint at an Inglewood intersection.
The officer, identified Wednesday as Sgt. Ceres Black, was stopped at a traffic light in northwest Inglewood about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when Frank Rankin, 21, of Los Angeles allegedly pulled out a revolver and ordered Black out of his car, Inglewood police Sgt. Alex Perez said.
Black exited the car and then fired at Rankin, who died at the scene.
