Court Orders Attachment Against Biotech Company: A U.S. District Court judge in Massachusetts ordered a $25-million attachment against biotechnology company Genetics Institute Inc. of Cambridge, Mass. Judge William G. Young granted the attachment to Genetics Institute’s competitor, Thousand Oaks-based Amgen Inc., to secure potential future damages--which haven’t yet been determined--against Genetics Institute in connection with the two companies’ ongoing litigation over the anti-anemia drug erythropoietin. Amgen previously won an appeals court decision against Genetics Institute that upheld its patent on the drug and invalidated Genetics Institute’s patent.
