Hewlett-Packard Profit Up 8%: The Palo Alto-based computer maker attributed the higher third-quarter profit to stronger orders. Net earnings for the three months ended July 31 were $192 million, or 76 cents per share, compared to $178 million, or 73 cents per share, for the same period last year. Revenue for the period, which is H-P’s third fiscal quarter, totaled $3.52 billion, up 9% from $3.24 billion in the 1990 period.
