DIVING U.S. CHAMPIONSHIPS : Lenzi Finally Wins His Title
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Mark Lenzi, runner-up in the 1-meter springboard at two previous U.S. Diving Championships, ran away with his first 1-meter national title Friday night.
Lenzi scored 659.46 points, which U.S. Diving officials say is the most points ever scored in the 1-meter. No official diving records are kept because the scoring criteria have changed over the years.
Lenzi was so dominant that he could have passed on his 11th and last dive and still won by nearly two points.
Zeke Crowley, who retired in 1988 and is diving in only his second major meet since April, was second with 579.18 points. Defending champion Pat Evans was third.
