Ego’s Not the Half of It

It’s a shame that two funny movies like “Ishtar” and “Hudson Hawk” have to sit side by side with the colossally bad movies “Howard the Duck,” “Rhinestone” and “Leonard Part 6.”

While excessive cost overruns should have been avoided on both films and their budgets not been blown out of proportion by the media, they both have distinct offbeat styles and, as such, have gained followings.

When stars involve themselves with risky hard sells like these, they should take a lesson from Kevin Costner and take less money up front. If costs are kept down, then passion projects that don’t appeal to everyone might not be so disastrous.
