Crayton’s Run USC Highlight
A 65-yard touchdown run by junior tailback Estrus Crayton, a transfer from Rancho Santiago College in Santa Ana, was the big play Saturday as the USC football team ran through an intrasquad scrimmage at USC.
Neither of the Trojans’ sophomore quarterbacks, Reggie Perry and Curtis Conway, was able to distinguish himself. Conway completed one of six passes for six yards, with one interception, and Perry completed one of four passes for three yards.
Perry was removed about one-third of the way through the scrimmage after straining his right knee when sacked by sophomore defensive guard Jason Uhl, whose hit elicited a stinging rebuke by Coach Larry Smith.
Perry, whose three snaps from center last season represent the Trojans’ only experience at the position, is listed co-No. 1 on the depth chart with Conway. His injury is not believed to be serious. “Fortunately, he had (knee) braces on,” Smith said.
Said Perry: “Coach Smith wanted to keep me out as a precautinonary measure. I’ll be out there ripping and running (Monday).”
