BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Valenzuela Has ‘No Hard Feelings’
Fernando Valenzuela said he will have “no hard feelings toward anybody” after he makes his final start for the Angels’ triple-A Edmonton farm team Monday and goes home to await calls from other teams. Valenzuela, who is 1-3 with a 6.35 earned-run average in four starts, signed a minor league contract after being released by the Angels in June. The deal included a provision making him a free agent if he hadn’t been recalled by Monday. The Angels’ plans don’t include the 30-year-old left-hander, although they haven’t publicly confirmed their intention to let him go.
“They probably have something in mind already,” Valenzuela said Saturday in Tacoma, where Edmonton played Oakland’s farm team. “I do what they want me to do. I went to the minor leagues and pitched eight games. I don’t need more than that. I believe I can pitch in the big leagues. After this, if nothing comes up, we’ll wait until the off-season and go to another team next spring.”
