Vacation’s Over--Students Are Back
The last vestiges of the traditional long summer vacation will disappear today for a majority of students in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The new school year will begin for about 360,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade--all those who are not attending year-round schools already.
Several years ago, the district began putting some schools into year-round operation--with students on varying vacation schedules--to expand capacity at crowded schools. This year, most of the district’s 650 schools will operate on a single calendar. Instead of having a 12-week summer vacation, students will attend from mid-August through June, with about eight weeks off in midwinter.
Parents who do not know which school their child should attend can call (213) 625-KIDS.
