Heart of America Wins Regatta

Heart of America, a yacht built for the 1987 America’s Cup, topped three other 12-meter boats to win the featured race of the fifth annual American Cancer Society Cup Regatta at San Diego Bay Sunday. Heart of America, skippered by Vince Simms, beat fellow U.S. America’s Cup vessels America II and Stars & Stripes on a large triangular slalom course.

TENNIS

Ross Loel of Rancho La Costa defeated Vasco Goncalves of Portugal, 6-3, 6-4, to win the singles title at the USTA International Junior Boys Tournament in Philadelphia.

WRESTLING

David Butler of El Cajon earned a silver medal in the 163-pound class in the Greco-Roman competition at the Pan-Am Games in Cuba. Abel Sarmiento of Cuba took the gold and Nestor Garcia of Venezuela won the silver.
