Scott Donie won his first national title in the platform event of the U.S. Diving Championships at Bartlesville, Okla.
Donie got 79.68 points on his final dive, a back 1 1/2 somersault with 3 1/2 twists, to edge Chuck Wade by 3.38. Defending champion Pat Evans took the bronze medal.
Ellen McGrath won her first national championship in the women’s platform competition, beating Cokey Smith by less than three points. Patty Armstrong gained the bronze.
