Temple City : Fire Sprinkler Ordinance
New residential structures in Temple City--except detached garages--will have to be equipped with fire sprinkler systems, the City Council decided Tuesday.
Councilman Thomas Breazeal wanted to limit the sprinklering requirement to apartments and condominiums, but other council members said the rule should apply to single-family houses as well. Several said that if the regulation saves even one life, it will be worth the several thousand dollars it will add to the cost of new houses.
Councilwoman Mary L. Manning said fire sprinklers are less expensive than lawn sprinklers or carpeting, and added, “I know my children are worth more than $2,000 or $3,000.”
The council instructed the city attorney to prepare an ordinance that will be presented for final approval at its Sept. 3 meeting.
