Long Beach : 3 Sought in Death of Man Killed as Daughter Watches
Sheriff’s homicide detectives are seeking three suspected gang members in the murder Monday night of a 29-year-old Long Beach man shot to death in front of his young daughter and horrified neighbors after a shouting match escalated into violence.
William Miskey died at the scene of the shooting, a small apartment complex in the 6100 block of Linden Avenue, where neighbors said he lived with his wife and three children. The suspected gang members were visiting three young women who share an apartment there.
According to both neighbors and sheriff’s detectives, Miskey had an ongoing dispute with the women over such things as loud music and visitors.
Several neighbors called 911 for help when the shouting match heated up and one of the suspected gang members began brandishing a gun. Events escalated so quickly, however, that Miskey was already dead by the time the first deputy could get to the scene, neighbors said.
Miskey’s daughter, whom neighbors described as being about 10 years old, was standing nearby when her father was shot in the chest. The child ran crying after her father as he stumbled, bleeding profusely, from the apartment courtyard to the sidewalk out front where he collapsed and died.
The suspected gang members ran out the back of the apartment complex and escaped in their car, detectives said. They are believed to be members of a Latino gang from outside the city, detectives said.
