Countywide : Candidate Removed From Political Unit

A candidate for the Ventura County Community College Board of Trustees has been bounced from the county Democratic Central Committee for poor attendance.

The Central Committee voted unanimously to remove Tom Jolicoeur and another committee member for failing to show up at monthly meetings, Nels Henderson, chairman of the Ventura County Democratic Party, confirmed Wednesday.

Jolicoeur, former chairman of the central committee, had been to only one meeting in the past eight months, Henderson said. Committee bylaws say members cannot miss more than three meetings in a row.

“We are usually very lenient about those things,” Henderson said. But Jolicoeur and another committee member, Roland Glover, had not participated in board meetings. Henderson said members were warned repeatedly about lapses in attendance.

Under the bylaws, the ousted members may ask for reinstatement at the committee’s next meeting Sept. 4. Jolicoeur, a financial planner and insurance broker, could not be reached for comment.

Glover, affirmative action officer for the Ventura County Community College District, called his removal “very appropriate.” He said he teaches Wednesday nights when the committee meets. “If you are in a position and not doing a good job, you should make way for someone else to do a good job.”
