Arson Suspected in 100-Acre Brush Fire
A fire that charred about 100 acres of brush in the Angeles National Forest in Glendora was being investigated as arson, authorities said.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries battling the Tuesday blaze, said a dispatcher for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Neither firefighter required hospital treatment, she said.
The fire started at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and was brought under control shortly before 10 p.m., the dispatcher said. The flames, which were fanned by 10 m.p.h. northerly winds, did not threaten any buildings. About 450 firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service and Los Angeles County dug barricades to contain the blaze, said U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Randi Jorgenson.
The bulk of the fire was to the east of California 39, but some flames jumped to the west of the highway and also burned near the San Gabriel Dam, Jorgenson said.
