TUSTIN : 31% Reduction in Water Use Reported
The city’s water conservation program is progressing well, with the city’s 13,000 water customers having reduced their consumption in July by 31% from two years ago, said Finance Director Ron Nault.
Since the program’s inception, about 2,600 customers have requested variances allowing them to use more than their prescribed limits, Nault said. More than 2,000 requests have already been approved.
So far, the city has billed more than $88,000 in penalties for excessive water use, with the average penalty being $33.82. The city buys water from the Metropolitan Water District and then sells it to residents.
The city is continuing to distribute conservation information to its customers and is sponsoring a “Water Awareness Weekend” Saturday and Sunday.
