Carter, Fahs Chosen for Goodwill Series

Mater Dei outfielder Cale Carter and Fountain Valley High School pitcher Derek Fahs have been named to the U.S. all-star team that will participate in the Pacific Rim Goodwill Series Aug. 31-Sept. 2.

Carter had five hits in nine at-bats and Fahs struck out six, gave up one hit, no runs and struck out six in five innings in the Area Code games, which concluded Tuesday in Fresno and featured top high school players from eight Western states.

The U.S. team will open the double round-robin Goodwill series with a 3:30 p.m. game against Korea on Aug. 31 at Cerritos College. On Sept. 1, it will face Japan at 3:30 p.m. and Korea at 6:30 p.m. at the Riverside Sports Complex, and will finish on Sept. 2 with a 12:30 p.m. game against Japan at Blair Field in Long Beach.
