Two-Sport Calabasas Standout Hoover to Play Baseball, Basketball at UC Davis
Tom Hoover, a basketball and baseball player from Calabasas High, will play both sports at UC Davis and will enroll at the Northern California Athletic Conference school this fall.
Hoover chose UC Davis because of its political science department. He plans to attend law school after graduation.
Last winter, Hoover averaged 12.5 points and eight rebounds per game for the Coyotes’ basketball team and, in baseball, batted .413 (26 of 63), with 20 runs batted in and 10 stolen bases.
Derek Scurry, who graduated from Hawthorne High in June, has signed a letter of intent with the Cal State Northridge men’s track and field program, Coach Don Strametz announced.
Scurry has personal bests of 23 feet 6 1/2 inches in the long jump and 47-6 3/4 in the triple jump.
Scurry placed sixth in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump at the Southern Section 4-A Division championships in May.
He was the runner-up in the long jump at the Arcadia Invitational in April.
